Nature Medicine has a list of the most cited publications in the area of cancer published over the years 2008-2010 (Focus on Cancer - Cancer Highly cited papers, 2008-2010. Nat Med 2011, 17:280 - 282). The CAIRO2 publication (J. Tol et al N Engl J Med 2009) with a total of 224 citations has a very honorable 10th place in the year 2009! The CAIRO study, published in 2007 (Koopman M. et al Lancet 2007) has been quoted 156 times, and receives a lot of international attention.
